Metamorphosis: Growth & Renewal
A song can tell half the story, the person behind the song can tell you the truth.

As a songwriter, I often get asked why for everything. "Why did you write it this way?" "Why is that relevant?" Why, why, why. Here's the thing; not everything needs a why. Some things just are. This is the case with our song, Metamorphosis. The answer to your whys are in the song itself. No need to overanalyze, or deep dive. The real story is not so much in the words of the song, but how the song came to be. Grab your popcorn and movie snacks and let me tell you a story.
Just an Idea
I was sitting in my room one day, listening to the Electric Light Orchestra, when a thought flooded my mind. I'm a writer. I have the power to create the most intricate stories in a couple of lines, much like the stories that I was listening to at that moment. So what do I do? I grab a pen and paper and begin writing.
As I write, I notice that with each line, there is a rhyme. Now we're getting somewhere. I continue writing, my pen scratching against the paper as stanza after stanza drip on the paper, forming a coherent thought. A poem without hidden meaning. A poem with a beat. It needed to be something more then just words on a paper (not to say words are absent of feeling). It needed music.
Song in the Making
My initial version of Metamorphosis was over six verses long, so I narrowed my song in the making, down to two verses and sent them to my friend, Kai Hall. Those two verses were:
(Verse 1)
Your eyes are like the moonlight so soft and so wild
But time’s such a cruel thief cause it stole that beautiful smile
You left me all alone and made the doubt inside me crawl
You made me feel like a caterpillar, insignificant and small.
(Verse 2)
I’m not bound to my cocoon, I’m flying in the sky
I’ve escaped all your barricades and burned webs of lies
I thought that you were an angel, well I guess I was wrong
Cause I put my faith and love into you but the next day you were gone.
And the rest is history. Kai, Ian, and Rylee came together to create the master beat, that is the Metamorphosis instrumental.
